For this assignment, I have gathered magazine articles, advertisments, as well as a comic strip and a poem from my graduation memory book. When brought together, these finds make arguments about the double edged sword of western society and technological advancements. That is, these finds put pressure on the promise of technology and western beliefs by sheding light on what is often lost when such "advancements" are made.

"Adbusters" runs no actual advertisments. That is, they do not sell advertising space so they don't have to censor their messages based on the will of their advertising. If they don't rely on the money gained from advertising, they won't miss it. Therefore, this "add" that ran adjacent to the articles (1) is not really trying to sell something. This said, this piece does have a complelling argument. When read along with McClellan and Kunston, I see the trees at the top of the image as representative of Albee's (qtd. in Kunston) natural refuge and the super market below it as the consumer culture that has erased our much needed refuge. If we are to buy and sell for a living, we must have an escape. But where do we go when we have decided we can buy and sell nature? If a surfer decided she could own the wave she rode, she wouldn't last long once it took her under, proving her wrong,
