For this assignment, I have gathered magazine articles, advertisments, as well as a comic strip and a poem from my graduation memory book. When brought together, these finds make arguments about the double edged sword of western society and technological advancements. That is, these finds put pressure on the promise of technology and western beliefs by sheding light on what is often lost when such "advancements" are made.

Graduation Poem -- by justin hicks
When I was in highschool I had friends sign this memory book before we graduated. Like the artist he was, justin hicks wrote me a poem. Keeping with the Pittsburgh born and bread work ethic, Justin writes: "we know like ain't peachy...the key is to work hard/ right up until the end/and then stop and/ sleep." Because "life ain't peachy," we have to play the hand we are dealt, work hard, and rest when life is over. For some reason, this poem always reminded me of mill workers and laborers like my father and step father, and it also makes me think of that Rush song "Working Man."
